FAQ

How much does Hollywood make per year?

A movie takes around $100 million to create. So if you made ten movies a year for a decade, you'd have enough money to buy a small country.

Your island would be yours, complete with an airport, power plant, bank, post office, police force, fire department, school system, hospital, sports stadium, theater, and cinema.

If that doesn’t sound like fun, you must be insane.

Is the Hollywood Walk of Fame a free thing?

Yes! You don't have to pay anything to visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame. For photographers, you need a permit. They cost $15 per head.

You must have a valid identification if you plan to visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

If you are below 18 years old, you must accompany someone 21-years-old or older.

The walkway can only be entered after 10 AM.

You may not be allowed to leave the walkway until you pay again once you're inside.

There are no cameras allowed inside the walkway.

Why are so few independent films ever distributed?

Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.

They are certain distributors will take their films, as they know that the public will love them.

However, this is rarely the case. Distributors often use independent filmmakers.

They will use techniques such as delaying the release of a movie until after the awards season has ended.

Or they delay the release date of a low-budget film until after the summer blockbuster season has begun.

Distributors may also keep films from the public until people have already spent hundreds of money on tickets, popcorn or candy.

They don't want any of those profits to go to waste.

What is the difference among a producer or distributor?

Produced by a producer, the movie is produced. The movie is distributed via a distributor. Producers can sell their movies directly to theaters, distributors, or other companies like Netflix. Distributors purchase movies directly from producers. They then sell them on to theaters or cable channels, as well as streaming services.

Distributors should negotiate with theater owners regarding where their movies are playing. This means that some theaters may charge more to see a certain movie than others. A distributor should have multiple theaters in order to ensure that your movie is seen by as many people possible.

How To

How to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce established the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.

To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you are approved, you will receive a certificate of eligibility that includes your name, date, residence, occupation, category, and other information. A bronze plaque with the name of your choice is included. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues a cheque payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce. It then sends the check the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the artist or organization whose application was accepted. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs takes the other half.

After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. To be eligible for the HWOF, the artist must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce any balance. The amount due will depend on when you were first nominated. For example, if you were first nominated in 1990, you would owe $15,000. You would be responsible for $10,000 if you had been nominated previously in 1980.

To remove yourself from HWOF, contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They will help you pay the remaining debt. They will take care of removing your name from the list permanently.

How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?

When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. A person must be present at the time of receiving a star. A star can be renominated after 10 years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Nominating you can be done by family members. If there are no living relatives, then the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place a memorial marker in front of the star.

Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?

The HWOF was not created to be a historical landmark. It is meant to honor those who contributed to film history.

What happened with the stars that were stolen? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
