How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents someone who contributed to motion pictures, television, radio, theater, music, or some aspect of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.
To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. You will also receive a bronze plaque engraved with your name. This plaque is affixed to a concrete base in front of the designated star.
You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce then sends $25 to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
The department issues a check payable the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then sends the check directly to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays artists or organizations whose applications were accepted. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then pays half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs receives the remaining half.
Once an artist has received their star, he/she is eligible to be listed in the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. For example, $15,000. Suppose you were first nominated as a nominee in 1990. If you were nominated for the first time in 1990, you would owe $15,000.
If you want to remove yourself from the HWOF, you need to contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and pay off the remainder of your debt. They will remove your name permanently from the HWOF list.
How old must one be to get a HWOF star
When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. To receive a star, one must be alive at that time. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Why not just have stars on every street?
The HWOF is not meant to be a historical monument. It is meant to honor those who contributed to film history.
