FAQ
What's the difference between a manufacturer and a distributor?
Produced by a producer, the movie is produced. The movie is distributed through a distributor. A distributor can distribute the movie to theaters or other companies such as Netflix. Distributors purchase movies directly from producers. Then they sell them to theaters, cable channels, or streaming services.
Distributors must negotiate with theater owners where their movies will be shown. This means that some theaters might charge more money for a certain movie than others. Distributors should be able to distribute your movie to as many theaters as possible.
It is called Hollywood.
D.W. Griffith created the first movie industry in California in 1887. It was named after Los Angeles, at the time known as Hollywood.
Because it was an exciting area to visit, the name stuck. It attracted people from all over the world to check out what was happening.
Today, Hollywood is still very much part of our culture. We have movies. There are also music videos. Commercials. And we call them all "Hollywood."
How much does Hollywood earn in a single year?
Production costs on average for a movie are around $100 million. You could make ten movies a month for a decade and still have enough money left to buy a small nation.
Your island would be yours, complete with an airport, power plant, bank, post office, police force, fire department, school system, hospital, sports stadium, theater, and cinema.
If you don't find this to be fun, then you are probably insane.
How much does it take to distribute a feature?
A distribution deal can cost anywhere from $100,000 to $150,000.
The average cost of a theater is approximately $10,000
The average screen cost is about $5,000
That means that if you have 100 screens, then your distribution fee would be around $500,000.
Distributor fees of $50,000 would apply if there are ten screens.

How To
How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star
The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.
To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your personalization is also provided. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.
If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce then sends $25 to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
The department issues an official check payable to Hollywood Chamber of commerce. This check is then sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the artist or organization whose application was accepted. The artist or organization then pays the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce half the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs receives the remaining half.
Once the artist receives his/her star he/she will be eligible to be inducted into the HWOF. You must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce the balance due to be included on the HWOF. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. For example, $15,000. Suppose you were first nominated as a nominee in 1990. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.
You will need to contact Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be removed from the HWOF. They will remove you from the list.
What age is required to become a HWOF star?
When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. A person must be present at the time of receiving a star. A star can be renominated after 10 years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
Nominating you can be done by family members. If no relatives are living, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may place a memorial stone in front of your star.
Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?
The HWOF doesn't intend to be historical monument. It is intended to honor all those who have made film history possible.
What happened to the stars that got stolen? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star is between 250-300 lbs. If you add all of the weight together, it comes to approximately 4 tons of stars!
