Why are so few independent films ever distributed?
Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.
Because they are confident that the public will love their film, they believe distributors would be willing to buy it.
This is not often the case. Distributors often profit from independent filmmakers.
They will use techniques such as delaying the release of a movie until after the awards season has ended.
They also delay the release date for a low-budget film until the summer blockbuster movie season has begun.
Distributors are also trying to keep films off the streets until audiences have already spent hundreds upon thousands of dollars on tickets or popcorn.
They don't want any of those profits to go to waste.
How much do actors make?
For independent films, the average salary for an actor is less than $100,000. Most actors get between $10,000-$20,000 per film. Many actors do not get any compensation. It depends on the actor's success. It all depends on how successful they are.
Do I have the right to start my own distribution firm?
No. A distributor is required to operate a distribution firm.
You don't have to distribute films from other people, but you must still follow certain rules.
You can't, for example, charge different prices to different theaters. Additionally, fees cannot be charged to different customers.
Also, you can't offer your services to any other company.
What is the difference among a producer or distributor?
The movie is produced by a producer. The movie is distributed by a distributor. Distributors, theaters and other companies, such as Netflix, can be sold directly by producers. Distributors buy movies from producers. They then make them available for sale to theaters as well cable channels and streaming services.
Distributors have to negotiate with theater owners over where their movies should play. This means that some theaters might charge more money for a certain movie than others. You should select a distributor that has multiple theaters if you want your movie seen as much as possible.
Why don't more filmmakers use crowdfunding websites like Indiegogo or Kickstarter?
Crowdfunding websites are great because you can reach potential investors directly.
Filmmakers don't feel qualified to ask for funds. They believe they need another person to verify their claims.
Even though they aren't yet proven to be themselves, they don't believe that anyone should put money into them.
Instead, they spend long hours working on their project, in hopes of someone noticing.
Then, once they finally launch their campaign, they realize they didn't prepare properly.
Instead of receiving thousands of dollars, they receive a few donations.

How To
How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. There are 1,922 individuals currently listed on HWOF.
You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. After being approved, you will be issued a certificate stating your name, date and place of birth. It also includes information about your occupation, occupation and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.
If a member of the HWOF has nominated you, or if your contributions are significant to films, television, radio or theatre, or any other part of popular culture, you can apply for a Star. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. The person who accepts the nomination will receive a second confirmation letter. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
The department issues a cheque payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce. It then sends the check the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the application submitted by the artist or organization. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce receives half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.
After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. To be listed on the HWOF, you must pay the remaining balance owed to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due depends upon how many years ago your first nomination was. For example, if you were first nominated in 1990, you would owe $15,000. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.
Contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to get your name removed from the HWOF and to repay any outstanding debts. They will remove you from the list.
How old is one to be eligible for a HWOF Star?
When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. To receive a Star, one must still be living at the time. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
Family members may nominate you to be a star. If there are no known living relatives, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place the memorial marker in front of it.
Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?
The HWOF is not meant to be a historical monument. It is meant as a memorial to all who contributed to the history of film.
What happened with the stars that were stolen? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs approximately 250-300 pounds, which equates to 4 tons of stars.
